Q&T Hi-tech Polymer Strengthens Leadership with Vietnam’s First VISION K5 HS Metallizer Featuring AluBond® Technology

Q&T Hi-tech Polymer has reaffirmed its position as a regional and global leader in polymer banknote substrate innovation through the purchase of Vietnam’s first VISION K5 HS metallizer equipped with AluBond® technology. The 1350-mm system, scheduled for installation in early 2026, marks Q&T’s first in-house metallizing line, enabling the company to vertically integrate one of the most advanced steps in banknote security film production.

This strategic investment underscores Q&T’s ongoing commitment to sovereign-grade security capability, technology control, and product quality enhancement. After extensive evaluation, Q&T selected BOBST, the world leader in vacuum metallizing for its proven reputation, high metal adhesion performance, and suitability for banknote applications.

Enhancing Banknote Security, Authentication, and Design Freedom

Q&T is one of the very few companies worldwide capable of manufacturing specialised polymer substrates for circulating banknotes. The new VISION K5 HS line will allow Q&T to produce high-precision metallized films that elevate the optical and authentication value of polymer banknotes, strengthens counterfeit resistance and supports greater design flexibility for issuers and designers. These capabilities reinforce Q&T’s role as a trusted partner for central banks modernising national currency systems.

Why AluBond® Performance Aligned with Currency Demands

BOBST’s AluBond® technology is widely recognised for delivering exceptional metal bonding strength across multiple substrates, eliminating the need for chemically treated films and improving sustainability. Its high dyne level retention enhances ink wetting and print consistency which is critical for banknote visual quality and process durability.

In addition, the VISION K5 HS platform combines high speed, the industry’s largest coating window, reduced aluminium consumption and a compact footprint perfectly suiting Q&T’s strategic production roadmap.

Commenting on the investment, Adam Luong, International Sales Director, Q&T Hi-tech Polymer said “When we decided to enter the metallizing field, we knew we needed a system that could meaningfully increase metal performance. After our technical assessment, the BOBST AluBond® process exceeded expectations and has a strong reputation in currency-grade manufacturing. We look forward to its commissioning in January and to supplying high-quality metallized films that meet and exceed customer requirements.”
